Tell Us What you Think!
In March 2004, the Friends of Timberline Lodge sponsored an international design competition for a new winter entry. In order to attract top design proposals, a monetary prize was offered for the top three entries and a jury was invited to select the winners. Jury members consisted of the RLK & Co., US Forest Service, Friends of Timberline Board, University of Oregon, School of Architecture, Preservation Program, and the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Designed to resemble a new fallen snow drift, the winter entry envisioned by winners NE Works is almost perfect in its simplicity. The intriguing design captures the essence and poetic image of the mountain while exhibiting respect for the historic nature of Timberline Lodge. Recognizing the craft, boldness, and solidity of the original Lodges construction, NE Works was challenged to design an addition that did not attempt to mimic the original but rather create an entry that pays homage to the enduring quality of the Lodge.
The competition resulted in a solution that the Board and members of Friends of Timberline are fully committed to support and we want your input. We want to hear what you think of this exciting architectural addition to the Lodge and ask you to complete the following survey. Your responses will help provide the Friends, RLK Co., and the Forest Service with information to guide our future decisions and help make the new entry a reality.
